Wonders of Water Discovery Tour

Transforming a municipal van into an immersive augmented reality experience.

Sydney Water is on a mission to drive awareness among local communities around where their water comes from and the steps being taken to plan ahead for a water-secure future. So, we created the Wonders of Water Discovery Tour, transforming an ordinary municipal van into an engaging and educational experience powered by gamification and augmented reality (AR) tech. The fully customised van is made up of three interactive experiences, taking Sydneysiders on the journey of the urban water cycle and bringing to life just how precious water really is.

Solution: As water becomes an increasingly precious resource, Sydney Water, Australia’s largest water utility, is on a mission to drive awareness among local communities around where their water comes from and how it’s planning ahead to ensure a water-secure future. The reality is that many people take for granted how access to clean drinking water is as easy as switching on the tap, not considering the journey it takes to get there. We needed to educate locals on the urban water cycle and showcase alternate water sources that may become necessary in the future, delivering our message in a way that would really sink in.

So, we created the Wonders of Water Discovery Tour, transforming a municipal van into an engaging and educational experience. The customised van harnesses augmented reality (AR) and gamification tech to bring the journey of the water cycle to life across three different experiences, guided by a mascot, Jila the platypus, who helps all learn about Sydney’s water future.

Creating the connection: Far from another PSA that goes unnoticed, we delivered a memorable, engagement-focused solution that opened up an important conversation, and connected the people of Sydney with where their water comes from.
