NBC Bravo

Content marketing strategies that connect

A flash cocktail event that married the best of Hollywood glamour with fresh New Zealand style.

The challenge: Bravo is a popular television channel in New Zealand that’s owned by NBCUniversal, and which focuses mostly on pop culture, design, food, and glamour. They launched a nationwide search for a new host for their channel. Once they had found their presenter – they needed to share the news with their clients, advertisers and the rest of the country. This deserved to be a spectacular announcement event, something that was fresh, engaging, and which suited the Bravo flavour. However, the brief to the Because team didn’t end there: the Bravo team also wanted to use this event to drum up hype around the channel, and the fact that they were creating more powerful local content to get advertisers even more excited about the channel. And lastly, the guestlist required all the right names besides the all-important clients; from key media and trending influencers, through to industry experts and C-suite executives.

The idea: There was only one suitable way to celebrate the rise of a true television star: a flash cocktail event that married the best of Hollywood glamour with fresh New Zealand style. It needed to feel exclusive and unique to Bravo and to pay homage to its local identity. It was both an announcement and a celebration, and this broadcast party deserved to have blockbuster appeal.

The solution: The venue that the team chose was perfect. The Quay Project was transformed into a modern mix of Hollywood glamour and proudly-local New Zealand flavour thanks to the slick event design with carefully selected set pieces, and the swish navy and gold colour scheme. But this wasn’t just about appearances – the challenge also included bringing in simple, but effective, elements to engage with the audience.

Guests became the stars of their own bespoke TV show thanks to a continuous professional-grade photoshoot in a stylish TV set, which captured them at their best. While this shoot was taking place, waiters served mouth-watering canapés and signature champagne cocktails. Several large, high-resolution screens located around the stage area provided the charismatic event host and TV presenter Dominic Bowden with the perfect platform to introduce Bravo’s Andy Cohen. That led up to the climax of the evening: the much-awaited announcement of the winner and new host, Cassidy Morris. George FM’s DJ, Clint, capped off the glittering celebration by adding a soundtrack of top party tunes for the rest of the evening.

Dialling up the success: This was a slick event that was perfectly on-brand for Bravo and seamlessly delivered on all the goals in a tight timeframe. Carla Dawson, NBCUniversal’s Senior Marketing Manager, said: “The guests and our executives alike were thrilled with how everything looked and loved the venue.”
