Hive’s suite of smart products facilitate smart living whilst reducing energy consumption.
The challenge: Hive offers an ecosystem of smart products for the home that can help drive energy efficiency. They asked us to help them showcase these, in partnership with ENI gas e luce, at one of the world’s most anticipated design events – Milan Design Week.
The idea: We needed to demonstrate how Hive’s suite of smart products facilitate smart living whilst reducing energy consumption. But as it was going to be showcased at the Milan Design Week, it needed to be an experience that held its own in this not-to-be-missed, temporary ‘world of design’.
The solution: We collaborated with Conversion, Mario Cucinella Architects and School of Sustainability (SOS) to create Smartown – a live installation of 33 mini, interactive Hive smart homes. These glowing ‘homes’ were placed at varying heights in the picturesque Orto Botanico gardens, a secret garden at Milan University.
The beautiful experience allowed visitors to interact with Hive’s smart products all, via the Hive app, like being able to control one of 16 million colours at a children’s party.
A skyline installation featured four large, rounded buttons. When each button was pressed, a percentage of lights would glow, giving consumers an idea of how much energy is used by residential vs. commercial establishments.
Making it extraordinary: Alongside the installation, Because designed an interactive Hive home pod and a pop-up store. This enabled visitors to trial Hive Active Heating, Active Lights and View Camera, learn more about ENI gas e luce on the ecommerce site, and make instant purchases.
Smartown was a fantastic example of teamwork across all stakeholders involved, which brought this magical brand experience to life in just a few weeks, thanks to our in-house design and production teams working around the clock.
