Dragon skull washes up on Jurassic coast
Game of Thrones is an epic book and US drama series that has scooped up a cult following with its fantasy tales of far off lands, battles and dragons.
To promote the 3rd series of Game of Thrones, Blinkbox created a rather lovely ambient marketing stunt. This colossal dragon skull ‘washed up’ on a Dorset beach and was discovered by holiday makers and fossil hunters along the Jurassic coast. Of course, beyond being a fun, smile-inducing experience for passing holidaymakers, it was also picked up by the press and the highly photographic piece of art was pictured not only in newspapers and magazines in the UK but was also shared by online commentators and on social media, spreading the image and message to a global audience.
With nearly 30 years of marketing experience, both client and agency side, I’ve acquired a rare perspective on brands and business: I believe you have to challenge things creatively if you want to grow sales. Consumer technology is reshaping our world, and it’s only the great brands that stay on the crest.
